The three schools in Workington were invited to compete for the annual under 16 rugby union competition held at Workington Zebras RUFC. This years competition saw Stainburn take on St Joesephs on a wet and windy day under floodlights. Despite the weather both teams showed some impressive handling in attack and some solid tackling in defence. Stainburn came out as victors in the end with support play and the ability to keep the ball moving enabling them to find the way to the try line. The game was a great chance to see some of Workingtons great rugby talent on show and hopefully those interested will take Workington RUFC up on the offer of playing for their Under 16 and Under 15 age groups. Workington RUFCs under 15s and 16s have a number of games over the next few months so all players will have plenty of chances to play some more rugby union. Training for the Workington youth side is on Wednesday evenings at 6.30pm and all players are welcome. Big thanks from Workington RUFC to the school teachers bringing the lads down and to the many parents who supported the two sides despite the wet weather.
