It may have been a chilly Saturday afternoon, but it was raining tries at The Ellis as Workington registered their 4th successive victory by humbling bottom club Wigton Wanderers 67 - 17 and in the process move up to third in Cumbria League Two.
Before kick off, both sides were joined by the ladies of Workington Finches for an impeccably observed minute's silence in memory of former player Nicola Wilson,
John McCrickerd helped himself to 5 tries, with David Wordsworth and Jonny Howarth both going over for two tries along with a try apiece from Jack Todhunter and Tom Sewell. Six of the tries were converted, all by Sam Robinson.
It is to Wigton's credit that their heads did not go down at any point during the match and indeed, they frustrated Workington for short periods with stubborn defending and on occasion launching dangerous attacks into Zebras territory.
Their perseverance was rewarded with three tries - two from Nathan Whitehead and one from David MIller, with Whitehead himself adding a conversion. Only the Zebras' trenchant rearguard action prevented Wigton from leaving The Ellis with a bonus point.
