Zebras 29 Windermere 0

Workington clocked up their 15th successive Cumbria League Two victory as they overcome not only dreadful conditions but also a resolute Windermere team 29 - 0 at The Ellis.

From kick off, it was the visitors who dominated proceedings as they camped in Zebras territory, but they couldn't find a way through and after soaking up the pressure, Workington drew the first blow on 7 minutes when their first attack into Windermere's half ended with Adam Hodgson hustling his way through to go into the corner for an unconverted try.

The lead was doubled four minutes later as Zebras launched another relentless onslaught and a finely choreographed pass and move sequence was finished off by Mark Murphy who galloped home to go over the whitewash and again the try went unconverted.

With the strong wind and pouring rain, conditions got worse and any prospect of champagne rugby - which was minimal at kick off - was now practically zero with extended sequences of midfield scrummaging as both sides produced solid and resolute defensive work.

However, four minutes from time a darting run from Tom Lawson sliced the Windermere defence open and he laid the ball off to David Todhunter, who mercilessly brushed aside a late challenge to thunder home for a well deserved try. It was third time lucky for Sam Robinson with his conversion attempt.

Only seven minutes of the second half had elapsed before Workington sealed another Bonus Point with their fourth try of the day when captain Andrew Bowe finished off another well drilled move with a brief squirt of speed before delivering his signature crashdown try, which went unconverted.

Then on 54 minutes, Mark Murphy and John McCrickerd combined to cue up Scott Campbell who evaded the tired Windermere defence to sprint clear and touch down, with Robinson adding his second conversion.

By this time, conditions were getting worse as the rain was getting harder and temperatures dropping further. With concern for player safety, the referee decided to blow for time on the hour, ensuring that the result stood.
