Although depleted through injuries and work commitments the Steelers peoved to strong for Greengarth

Steelers kicked off playing down the hill with a reasonable cross field wind making play a bit awkward for both teams and handling errors were plenty in the first six or seven minutes.
Steelers were the first team to settle down and started to use the big forwards of oakes and wordsworth to take them down to opposition 22 where they got a penalty just in front of goal whereby Johnny howarth duly slotted the ball between the posts.
After 20 mins of play greengarth kicked a ball upfield and into touch five yards from the Steelers line, From the resulting lineout the ball was not secured and the greengarth prop managed to dive at the ball securing an unconverted try.
From the resulting kickoff Steelers pinned back the opposition for 10minutes and were rewarded with another penalty to the right of goal , again J Howarth slotted this between the posts making the half time score 5 points to 6 Steelers.

15 minutes into the second half the ball was moved along the back line and R Hodgson put a kick through for the ensuing race between wingers to be won by A Mitchell who picked up raced around the fulback to score just to the left of the posts, for J Howarth to slip and miss the kick.
Almost immediately Greengarth hoisted the ball for the stand off to pick up his own kick and race past several defenders to score and convert his own try putting Greengarth ahead 12 points to 11.

The steelers rallied together with runs from dunn/oakes/and good support from the back row managed to secure good ball just inside the opposition half, where the ball was fed to howarth who produced a high swirling kick which was missed by Mitchell and the opposition winger with T(twig) Lawson chasing the loose ball to score in the corner.

With 7 minutes to go the forwards produced some good rugby to get upto 5 metres from the line whereby Phil Jones in his first game for the steelers picked and dived over the line to score a well earned try converted by howarth.
Final Score Gosforth Greengarth 12 Steelers 23.
