Workington Steelers returned to league action with a home victory over Greengarth.

The steelers bolstered by the returning Ben lannigan from his tour of New Zealand, produced a solid display to beat a strong Greengarth side who included a number of Egremont players in their ranks. The Steelers started the brighter and following strong pressure John Dryden broke down the blind side and executed a sublime dummy that would have graced the stade de france to beat the full back and score. Daniel Blaney converted. On the 20 minute mark Ben Lannigan crashed onto the ball and the Greengarth defence were unable to stop him from touching down. Again Blaney converted. The Steelers continued to dominate the first half and a further try by Lannigan was added when the home pack produced a driving maul close to the visitors line. Two penalty goals were also added by Blaney and the steelers led 25-0 at the break. At the break the Steelers made some changes, however this appeared to disrupt them and Greengarth came more into the game scoring two unconverted tries. The Steelers had done enough in the first half however and defended well in the closing stages to prevent any further breaches of their try line. The final score 25-10 in what proved to be a solid effort by the steelers with Sam reid and Tim Fong both 17 making their debuts and performing with credit.
