Workington Steelers ended their Cumbria League campaign with a home victory against Creighton.

Some of the Creighton players arrived late for the 2.15 scheduled kick off due to the temporary closure of Navies Bridge. Kick off was put back 10 mins however this did not stop the visitors getting into their stride and scored a well worked try within 2 mins of the kick off with the conversion added Creighton raced into a 7-0 lead. After their slow start the Steelers came more into the game and following some good pressure Sam Carter was able to reduce the deficit to 6-7 with two successful penalties. However some lax defence again allowed Creighton to hit back and score a further try, with the conversion missed Creighton led 12-6 In a evenly first half both sides applied pressure and the Steelers went further behind when a penalty infringement at a ruck was successfully converted. However the Steelers scored a try of their own when a deft cross field kick by Kevin Harper was neatly gathered by Sam Carter to score in the corner. With the score 15-11 at half time the game remained finally balanced, however both sides could not add to their tally, until the ball was worked along the line for winger Mark Worsley to score in the corner in the final play of the game, leaving the visitors bemused and the Steelers jubilant.
MOM went to Robert Hodgson for his sterling effort in attack and defence
Next up for the Steelers is a visit to St Benedict’s Ravens in the new Cumbria shield league
