Workington Finches signed off their home campaign in North 2 West with another defeat as Leigh ran in 7 tries to register a 41 - 3 success in the first "Ladies' Saturday" fixture at The Ellis
For the opening 20 minutes, Workington matched the visitors stride for stride, but it was Leigh who broke the deadlock and managed to soak up and overcome periods of dogged Finches resistance to score two further tries (with one conversion) to go into half time 17 - 0 to the good.
Kirby Neesham's penalty two minutes into the second half gave the Finches a glimmer of hope, but despite brilliant play from Neesham, Amy Brennan and captain Sarah Harrington they could not find a way through the resolute Leigh rearguard,
After riding the storm, Leigh stepped up a gear and scored four tries in 20 minutes to seal the points and move up to 4th in the league, two points ahead of Workington who remain in 6th.
Leonie Haile's tireless and powerful display at Number Eight deservedly earned her second successive "Player Of The Match" and credit must also go to Lauren Wilkinson, whose fearless tackling made the opposition know she was there in her powerful cameo during the second half.
