Workington Finches were handed their second successive league defeat as they went down 34 – 17 at Stockport Scarlets.
Despite the result, there were several bright moments as the prolific Lauren Coulson scored two tries to make it six in three matches and after scoring on her return last week, captain Charlotte Cammack registered her second try in seven days.
Elsa Whelan added the only successful conversion attempt and her well timed running, coupled with assured handling, were more than a handful for the Scarlets at various times during the course of the afternoon.
After a two year hiatus, Charlotte Hodgson returned to Finches colours at loose-head and she was always in the thick of it during scrums and line outs whilst giving uncompromising, but responsible, short shrift to any Stockport player unlucky enough to approach her.
Kate Smith also produced an efficient, confident performance as she drove forward at every given opportunity as well as providing firm support in the scrum.
The result sees Workington drop to 3rd in North 2 West, a point behind Harrogate and five away from runaway leaders Sandal.
Workington now have a three week break to regroup and refocus before returning to league action at The Ellis when they host West Park Leeds on 13th October.
